The advanced technology known as Thermal Remediation (heat treatment) is a safe, efficient and highly effective solution for the elimination of bed bugs. Specialized mobile heating units are used within bed bug infested areas to heat and maintain air temperatures between 122°F to 140°F – the temperature range known to kill all stages of bed bug development.

Since the nature of the bed bug infestation, as well as the size of the area to be treated are significant factors in determining the cost of a thermal remediation treatment, a no-obligation customized heat treatment estimate can be provided by one of certified technicians at your convenience.  Our bed bug heat treatment programs are ideal for apartments, dormitories, hotel rooms, office buildings, retail environments and single family homes.

What are bed bugs?

Bed bugs are small, parasitic insects that are making a rapid comeback after nearly 50 years of dormancy. An adult bed bug resembles an apple seed. They are reddish-brown in color and have a flattened oval shaped body. Only 1/4 of an inch in length, these tiny insects are wingless and have microscopic hairs that give them a banded appearance. Bed bugs are nocturnal creatures that feed exclusively on blood, preferring human blood whenever available, but they will also feed on other warm-blooded animals, such as cats and dogs.

Why do I have them?

Bed bugs are outstanding hitchhikers and can travel on an unsuspecting host for quite a distance. They are often introduced into homes, apartment buildings, hospitals and other commercial facilities on luggage, clothing and furniture. Bed bugs are not a sign of housekeeping or sanitation issues, but they are particularly a problem for establishments that have high occupancy turnover rates. The use of mass transit and the increase of both domestic and international travel are also factors in the increased bed bug problem.

Are they dangerous?

Although bed bugs do bite, they are not known to carry or transmit any diseases to humans. Their bites for some people may leave behind tiny, red welts that appear in a line or cluster and they may cause minor to severe skin irritation. A bed bug bite could become dangerous if it becomes infected and then medical attention should be sought.

How do I get rid of bed bugs?

Bed bugs can be difficult to control because of their elusive nature and their ability to hide in the smallest of cracks and crevices in mattresses, box springs, furniture and baseboards. Detection Pest Services can confirm the presence of bed bugs and recommend one of our different levels of treatment options to help you get rid of bed bugs.

Can I do it myself?

Bed bugs are not a pest many homeowners have much success eliminating on their own. Many do-it-yourself repellents and sprays to rid your property of bed bugs simply do not work as the chemicals they use are not effective. Also, if misused or mixed improperly, pesticides can be very dangerous to people, pets or plants and actually make your bed bug problem worse.

Is the treatment safe?

The health and safety of our customers, their families or employees is very important to us and that is why we use Integrated Pest Management products and treatments that are EPA registered for pest control use. In addition, all of our technicians are registered and licensed by the state or local jurisdictions where we provide service to ensure proper application.
